If you Bible journal or express yourself with adult coloring books, very soon you will pursue the best colored pencils, pens, and markers for your creative endeavors. Here is a helpful list of the top colored pencils, pens, and markers for Bible journaling and adult coloring.
One of the questions that comes up most often in our Bible Journaling Facebook group is, “Which pens can I use that won’t bleed through my Bible journaling pages?” Keep reading for helpful advice for page bleed through as well as other tips for finding the best pens, colored pencils, and markers for all your creative projects.
Any colored pencils will work in your Bible or adult coloring pages. Colored pencils are the best for blending color and there is no concern of bleed through to the other side of your page. Just take care that you don’t sharpen your pencils too much so they poke through or dent your page.
Keep in mind higher quality pencils have a smooth feel and glide more easily onto the page. Often the colors are brighter, too. However, inexpensive colored pencils do work fine, especially when you are just getting started.
When it comes to colored pencils, Prisma Colored pencils are some of the best, although also expensive. They have a soft feel and glide easily on the page.
Another option is Staedtler Ergo Soft colored pencils. These are high-quality and come with a handy stand.
Crayola Colored Pencils are much cheaper and certainly work also.
A new, fun option is Chameleon Color Tones Colored Pencils.
Yes, these are crazy expensive, but people in online Bible Journaling groups are going crazy about how fun these area.
Crayola Metallic Colors colored pencils are a fun options to get that metallic look.
Pens are one of the biggest challenges when it comes to Bible journaling because no matter the type you use, there will be some bleed through or shadowing on the other side of your page. This can be minimized depending on the type of pen you choose.
I personally love gel pels because unless you are doing heavy coloring, the bleed through is minimal and gel pens are fun to use! Plus they are inexpensive.
When it comes to a metallic look, check out these Gelly Roll Metallic SHADOW pens. They color in one color and then have a shadow of a second color – so fun!
For a very fine tip pen, I am loving
Soucolor Fineliner pens. These are a very fine tip, perfect for tiny places in a coloring book or other detail work.
When it comes to hand lettering in your Bible, I recommend Tombow markers. There is some shadowing on the other side of the page, especially depending on Bible page type, so practice first in the back or another inconspicuous place.
